| This is a portrait of our daughter, Avignon, and her first dog, Velvet. I had planned to paint this cluster of birch trees for some time and then realized that it would make a compelling backdrop for a portrait. Including Velvet was a way of contrasting the graphic black/white pattern of her coat and the birch trees against the warm tones of Avignon's skin and the brilliant autumn colours behind them. |
