Born in San Diego, Nila Collini has lived and painted most of her life on the coast of California.
Her favorite style is a form of impressionism based on abstract shapes that she labels macro painting. She finds that enlarging a recognizable form to many times its normal size allows her to explore its many subtle qualities and permits many people to appreciate that form for the first time. The inspiration to paint any subject often stems from interesting designs deep within the recesses or shadows of a seashell or flower. Often this exploration of the inner depths evolves into a series or becomes a recurring theme that continues for years. Her versatility in media ranges from oils and pure transparent watercolor to acrylic, gouache and collage. Nila Collini's formal education included study at Arizona State University in Tempe and Mesa College in San Diego. She has also studied in the workshops of some of the nation's finest watermedia artists. Her work hangs in corporate and private collections worldwide. |
