I am endlessly fascinated by abstract shapes.

My paintings are often inspired by the kind of abstract form found deep within a seashell or a flower. Enlarging it to many times its normal size allows many to truly appreciate a particular form for the first time once it becomes abstract.

Like anything organic, my work evolves through recurring themes that can become series such as irises, artichokes, seashells or white flowers. Some pieces dwell in my mind for years like seeds waiting for spring. I revisit them from time to time to breathe life into them, but I understand fully that each one lives on a unique timetable that can never be hurried.

It feels as if my media have also evolved: from early work in oils, through pure transparent watercolor, to acrylic, gouache and collage. My concern for the environment has found its way into my current acrylic collage work through incorporating recycled materials.
