Plein Air Competition: "100 Years of National Parks in Utah" (Posted: 5/5/08) --
This competition is sponsored by the National Park Service and Canyonlands Natural History Association. In 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt established Natural Bridges National Monument in southeast Utah. This year celebrates "100 Years of National Parks in Utah", a landmark in Utah conservation history, and a landmark in the conservation legacy of Theodore Roosevelt. The competition is intended to commemorate the centennial year by capturing the beauty and spirit of Red-Rock and Four-Corners Country in an art display that will be shown at venues in Blanding and then at Moab, Utah. The juror, Donna Poulton Ph.D. is one of the foremost authorities on art of the red rocks country, and is co-author of the book "Utah Art, Utah Artists." The competition will take place over a three day period (August 29 - 31) on location at Natural Bridges National Monument and its three sister National Parks in the Moab/Blanding area (Canyonlands, Arches, Hovenweep). "Stroke" call for entries (Posted: 6/20/08) --
Square Inch Gallery in NY, NY announces a call to artists for "Stroke", September 11 - October 2, 2008. If you were to take a random cross-section of a painting, it should be as unmistakable as your fingerprint, perhaps the uniqueness is as nuanced and subtle as a finger print, but it is unmistakably yours. For this exhibition we are looking for the evidence of your individual stroke. Open to artists working in any media that is directly manipulated with the hand; generally traditional fine art media (sculpture, drawing or painting). The Ambience Art Contest 2008 is open to all mediums of art; whether it be painting (oils, acrylics, watercolours), graphic art, sculpting, drawing, sketching and the like. All categories are welcome, as too are entrants from all countries. The contest will be judged by the resident artists of Ambience Productions. We have two experienced artists on board and no preference will be given to a particular category of art. Our judges produce a diverse variety of art themselves and are keen to view all types. Winners will receive great prize money, as well as a downloadable certificate to commemorate your win! The winning entries and artist's profiles will be published on our site.
