"Caged Fears" is meant to be part of the "Still Life" series. I believe that there are universal fears that are passed on from generation to generation. I've included the young animals in the painting as watchers. Many of these fears are legitimate but many are unfounded and become paralyzing elements in our lives. In my painting I chose to put symbols of these many fears in a cage to represent our efforts to free ourselves from them. The lion and the rhinoceros represent our fear of physical danger and the clock our fear of time passing too quickly. The little box keeps my engagement ring safe. I included it to represent our fear of losing our possessions. The rose ties up the theme symbolizing the cycle of life.
