The Value of Watercolor
August 4-8, 2014 — There seems to be a never-ending quest for watercolor painters to 'loosen up'! To paint loosely you have to have confidence in your abilities and a willingness to let go of details. In this workshop, you'll learn how to simplify the scene into larger shapes so you can paint more boldly. The importance of identifying the correct values in a scene, and then implementing it in your paintings will be emphasized throughout the class. Andy will complete at least one demonstration painting each day, and will cover topics including drawing, skies, trees, buildings, water, and figures. By the end of the class, you will have enough information to help you on your path to painting impressionistic watercolors. Visit website

Landscape Workshop: Watercolor Studio/Plein Air
August 18-22, 2014 — The signature of a Francese watercolor is his use of big shapes, color, color and more color! No matter where a Francese watercolor is displayed, it will radiate a flash of color that literally jumps off the wall, immediately capturing the eye of the casual observer and art critic alike. Francese brings a new style to the time tested combination of color and interesting shapes. His style employs the use of large brushes and a wet-on-wet method where in much of the color mixing is accomplished on the paper. The only limits are the artist's imagination and willingness to experiment with every combination of color on his palette. Learn to combine color, shape and detail into a unique work of art. Landscape Photography: The Way of the Land
September 12-14, 2014 (9am-4pm) — This workshop in landscape photography will invite the interpretation of both natural and man-made landscapes. One of photography's classic themes, landscape photography can reveal much about how both time and memory can cultivate a 'sense of place'. We'll examine how the 'grace of line', can weave together 'disparate elements' to provide meaning in a landscape photograph. In addition, the role of 'light' and the notion of 'quiet beauty' will be considered. And the psychology of color will be discussed though black & white imagery will also be welcomed during the workshop. Local field trips will provide opportunities to explore approaches and methods covered in class. Landscapes in the Studio
September 22-26, 2014 — For Michael Workman, the act of painting usually starts with an emotional response to the landscape. A delicate balance is achieved in his paintings between realism and abstraction. The landscape can be dramatic, moody and subtle. This 5-day workshop will be primarily an indoor class. Michael will be painting throughout the week, thus allowing the participant to see first-hand how he addresses these same subjects. From Source to Studio
November 1-6, 2014 — This workshop is designed to embrace the dialogue between plein air work and studio work. We will endeavor to put plein air painting back in its rightful context, i.e. that plein air painting is, more than anything else, about "learning to see" and being a dedicated student of nature. It is about being an effective "hunter gatherer" and harvesting information and ideas; it is the beginning not the end of a process. Then we will explore the notion that the studio is an extension of the work we do outdoors; it is where we explore, edit, experiment and refine ideas. I will demonstrate how you can keep your studio work fresh and impactful. There will be group critiques, discussions, and demos throughout. Visit website
