"Becoming Spontaneous in Your Painting"
September 21-23, 2017 Thursday - Saturday

If you are the kind of person who acts first and thinks about it later, your friends are likely to describe you as spontaneous, which means that you behave in a very natural way, without prompting or premeditation…Linda Ellen Price will focus on teaching you to become a more spontaneous painter and learn not to rely on reference material. In her work she uses quick gestures to create paintings that range from colorful street scenes, vibrant tropical creations, to figures in sepia. They reflect her vivid imagination and endless fascination with paint and color. In this workshop she will focus on color theory, missing color and adding punch to you your paintings.

We will look at ways to improve composition to best portray what the artist wants to communicate to the viewer. The workshop will also explore how to better “see” nature and subject matter, as well as address various aspects of painting including materials, set-up, color mixing, paint application methods, surfaces, techniques and the fundamentals of design and composition. January 25-27, 2018

This workshop will cover how to simplify and deconstruct your paintings by understanding the concepts of both Abstraction and Realism. We will work on finding that space that exists between the two artistic genres in order to create more sophisticated, complex and refined paintings. The goal will be to move beyond the mere replication of a scene to convey message and meaning through composition, tone and brushstrokes. We will cover various aspects of materials and technique from palette color selection to the application of paint onto the canvas. Understanding artists' ideas from diverse artistic styles will help develop and improve how you progress in your own painting process and ultimately enhance the quality of your work.

"Landscape in the Studio"
April 26-28, 2018

Artists will receive challenging group and individualized instruction in studio painting. Dee will observe the artists’ works and help them to improve rather than change their individual styles. The emphasis will be on learning to see value changes, color temperatures, and composition. We will be building arrangements of abstract shapes that will form a strong foundation for the painting. There will be extensive studies on color temperature and value that will make the students’ paintings “sing” and vibrate with evocative color. The remainder of the day will be spent painting and Dee will be working with artists on an individual basis. Instruction will be with oils, however all mediums are welcome.
