The Drama of The Figure
August 20-24, 2014 (9am-4pm) — Kevin Beilfuss, graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago and OPA Regional and National award recipient, comes to Atlanta for a five day figure workshop. Lighting, color, symbolism will be explored. Basic figure drawing skills required. In this workshop Kevin will emphasize a more intuitive way to look at drawing and painting. Learning to see 'impressionistically' -the ability to 'suggest', rather than 'render' the subject will be explored. This approach involves many quick drawing and painting exercises from both the nude, and clothed figure, as well as having students work on more finished paintings during the course of the workshop. Demonstrations will be done every morning, followed by students exploring what was taught during the demonstration. Visit website

The Touch of the Brush: Mark-Making, Calligraphy and Gestural Unity in Painting
February 12-15, 2015 — Painting is an arrangement of colored shapes - the most important truth of learning how to paint. We will focus on acquiring color sensitivity, seeing shapes of light & dark, attention to edges, using shape making gestural unity, & good studio practices. Experience required.
