The Joy of Travel Journaling
March 1- April 5, 2010 (Mondays, 9 AM-12 PM) — Ever wonder why we rarely look at our travel photos? Perhaps it's because taking a photo requires so little investment of one's attention that actual memories of the moment are scant. Not so with even a brief sketch in your journal. While I still take loads of pictures, it's invariably my journals that, even 32 years later, vividly evoke wonderful places and events of our travels! Sketching on location slows your pace, as you observe a scene for minutes, not just seconds. You'll be amazed at how quickly your drawing improves. Prepare to visit several of the Valley's most interesting locales and gain a new perspective on sketching, journaling, travel, and even watercolor itself. Beginners are especially welcome. Ned Mueller - Making A Painting Work
March 26-28, 2010 (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.) — A good painting is a very personal statement by the artist and tells as much about the artist as the painting itself. We will talk about the whole process of putting a painting together, from the first concept, to small idea, value or color studies to a more finished product. The emphasis will not be so much on a finished painting as the process of achieving it. Most paintings are ruined at the start because of little thought and idea of what to paint and how one will do it. Ted will discuss the benefits of photographic reference as well as how to edit, interpret and compose from a photo in order to give life and energy to the subject.
