"Sculpting and Drawing the Head II"
April 19-21, 2024

Mark Lineweaver will demonstrate the stages of sculpting the head from our live model throughout the program. Nettie Spiwack will teach implicit principles and structures seen by sculptors, painters and draughtsmen that are all represented in the mastery of drawing and are essential to advancing your drawing skills. You can choose your area of concentration: • If you want to concentrate on DRAWING the head, then observing the process of building a sculpted head will serve your ability to draw better. • If you want to concentrate on SCULPTING the head, then moving between drawing and sculpting will improve your observation and understanding. We work from a live model and reinforce the fundamentals through examples.

"Land Art and Mindfulness Workshop"
July 13-14, 2024

Nature can stimulate creativity and mindfulness, and likewise mindful creativity can amplify one’s appreciation of nature. Improve your ability to be conscious in and with nature by creating a temporary artwork in a natural setting using the materials found there. Making an artwork onsite not only amplifies attention to the beautiful details of one’s surroundings, but also the ephemeral, or impermanent, nature of land work releases the artist from preconceived ideas or pressures of making a lasting "product" so that they can be concerned only with creating in the moment. Students will create their works in Montgomery County's peaceful Fort Washington State Park, and afterward photograph it or make a short video to preserve the memory.
