"'Go Figure' in the Landscape"

"'Carmel By The Sea' En Plein Air"
October 28-31, 2019
 

Paint along the Monterey and Carmel Coastline en plain air with Plein Air Painters of America member, Randall Sexton. Open to all levels, this 3 (or 4) day workshop is especially geared to encourage the experienced artist to reach greater heights in their work. Sexton will review the basics of solid picture making - while sharing his own methods for simplifying the complex. Three days (weather permitting) will be spent on location en plain air, while an (optional) fourth studio day will focus on simplifying the figure directly (with a model). Daily demonstrations will be followed up with individual assistance at the easel.

"Sculpting the Figure with Stephen Perkins"
November 9-12, 2019
 

This workshop will appeal to anyone interested in the figure as an art form: sculptors, painters, draftsmen, and graphic artists. Working from the male model, the first two days will focus on the archetypal or memory shapes of the figure by abstracting forms into simpler geometry and convex planes and working in a hierarchy from larger to smaller shapes. Working from the female model, the last two days will focus on working methods in sculpting a dynamic pose from life, including capturing the gesture, blocking in the figure using a straight line method, carry through lines, rhythmic patterns, harmonies, and proportion. Stephen Perkins was trained in the classical method from Walker Hancock and others and currently teaches at Studio Incamminati.

Working from Stephen’s demonstration, the first two days will focus on how to block in the head using basic convex planes, and then working in a hierarchy from larger to smaller shapes, create the fundamental structure or map of the head. Working from the live model, the last two days will focus on working methods in sculpting a portrait from life. "Santa Barbara Travel Sketching Workshop"
April 5-10, 2020
 

Join us for 4 days of sketching with watercolor in beautiful Santa Barbara. We’ll enjoy the free-flowing and colorful nature of watercolor at its best while sketching and having fun! Brenda Swenson will help you develop observation skills, color awareness, simple design principles and learn about light and shadows. We’ll investigate various techniques, sketching tools, and approaches to watercolor. Enjoy time with fellow artists, instruction and friendly critiques. Space is very limited (max 12 participants). Brenda is the artist author of two books, Keeping a Watercolor Sketchbook (Award of Excellence Finalist) and Steps to Success in Watercolor.
