"Book It! Create a Book"

An experience to introduce or rediscover basic book-binding skills. Participants create a cover design, choose the types and number of pages to include, then bind them with a traditional stitching technique. You are welcome to incorporate your own handmade paper in your project. All participants under the age of 16 need to be accompanied by an adult. Please bring a bag lunch.

"Caning a Chair Seat: Doing the 7-Step Process"
July 27, 2019
 

Participants weave each of the 7-steps to hand cane a wooden frame using the most common pattern found in woven seats of chairs and rockers. When completed the sample serves as a reference tool for future caning projects. Participants need to bring small hand clippers, old washcloth, small spray bottle, awl, pencil, and plastic bag to keep instructions dry. All participants under the age of 16 need to be accompanied by an adult. Please bring a bag lunch.

"Acrylic Pouring"

"Intro to Tunisian Crochet"

This is a half day experience and follows an Introduction to Crochet. What looks like knitting or weaving but isn’t either one--Tunisian crochet. In this experience, we will start from the beginning, including making samples of various stitches, learning to increase and decrease and read written patterns. "Zentangle Black 'n Tan"

More fun and unique ways to create with Zentangle. First we will use black tiles with white pens, chalk pencils and tortillions as well as learn more new tangles. Then, we will expand to tan tiles, black, white and brown pens, black and white pencils to create a Renaissance looking tile. Previous Zentangle experience required. "Beginning Weaving: Place Mat/Table Runner"

For those with no weaving experience (or as a review) to understand how the weaving process takes place and how equipment is used. Each person will plan, measure, and thread a loom to weave your choice of project. Direction and instructions are given every step of the way to accomplish your goal. "Flame-Working with Glass: Open Torch for Beginners"

In this introductory session, you’ll be exposed to the basics and various styling methods to melt colorful glass rods in the traditional lampworking technique. You’ll experience all the fun of working with glass in molten form as you’re introduced to lampworking safety procedures and a bit of the history of this storied art form. You’ll understand how to distinguish quality glass from inexpensive imitations. *Note: Each participant will be working with a hot torch and molten glass, so please wear old cotton clothes, closed-toe shoes, and tie back long hair. "Begin to Spin Yarn on a Wheel"

For the novice or returning spinner, this experience covers what makes a thread a yarn, how a spinning wheel works, as well as the way to use and care for the wheel. You'll begin by drafting fibers and spin enough to ply it on the wheel, then wind it into a skein on a niddy-noddy for a "wash and set." Several types of ready-to-spin wools and blends are provided with enough to continue spinning once home. Bring your own spinning wheel or rent one for the day from MoonTree for an additional $10. "Wet or Dry? The Amazing Range of the Colored Pencil"
March 30 - April 1, 2020
 

Explore colored pencil potential- both traditional (non-watercolor) and watercolor pencils. Kristy Kutch, author of Drawing and Painting with Colored Pencil and The New Colored Pencil, is also featured in four instructional DVDs. She brings a wealth of experience and a friendly, supportive attitude that bolsters everyone- beginner to veteran. Kristy guides students through many techniques, with frequent demonstrations and access to large demonstrator sets of pencils. Come prepared to take home plenty of samples and goodies! This workshop will be held in a peaceful country studio setting with a small group (maximum 12). Students wishing to stay on-site, inquire about lodging at the nearby retreat center.
