"All about Art and Where to StART"

This class is for those who would like to work in art but do not know where to start and/or with what mediums. We will start with pencils, charcoal and work our way through watercolor, acrylic, pastels and oil and any others that students may be interested in. Barb will explain the pros and cons of each of the mediums including prices points and other materials you'll need for that medium, including, brushes, surfaces and framing. At the end of the session, students will have time to try them all on a small scale. In addition to the registration fee, students should bring $20 cash to pay the instructor for materials, all of which she will provide to you.

"'Blooming Beautiful' Flowers of the Pyrenees with Mary Dillon"

Join Mary Dillon on this fabulous botanical art retreat! An explosion of colour arrives in the pastures and woodlands surrounding Clos Mirabel in late April. Fields of bee orchids, pyramid orchids and early purple orchids on the lower slopes of the Pyrenees lead to alpine plants like gentians, saxifrages and butterworts dotting the upper slopes. Simple observational drawing techniques will help us to explore and examine the structure and habit of our subjects. Join international artist and art educator Wendy Artin at Clos Mirabel in South West France for a week-long painting workshop. "Watercolour Workshop - Landscape Painting with Qi Yang"

The Work of Qi Yang challenges two painting conceptions of Western and Eastern arts constantly. Yang merges Zen, together with German Expressionism that emphasizes emotion in the paintings through lines, colors, composition and technique. This workshop offers painting combined with poetic thinking for the Italian landscape – from the region Toscana to Assisi. We will at first learn to sketch nature directly in front of beautiful surroundings, for example, trees, forests, mountains, waters and ancient castles, churches, old houses, etc. After sketching the techniques of aquarelle and color ink will be taught, both of which can be used either separately or as mixed technique.
