Ideal for teens who want to further their drawing skills and develop a strong body of work for their portfolios. Students will work in drawing media from the still life, PAFA’s historic cast collection, and portrait models to learn principles of composition, value, perspective, and drawing techniques. "High School Intensive: Printmaking - Etching & Monoprint"

Printmaking enhances drawing/painting skills and creates striking contributions to a college portfolio. Learn basic intaglio processes (in which an image is incised into a printing plate) and monotype techniques (in which the image is drawn or painted onto the plate). Instruction will cover monoprint, drypoint, etching, aquatint, collograph and polymer plate methods; as well as image embellishments such as embossing, chine collé, collage, and mixed media techniques. Experiment with traditional and digital methods to develop imagery that interprets the lyrical content of your favorite artists. Employ spontaneous and stream of consciousness drawing and lettering exercises to invent narratives from instrumental music. Learn about the history of the concert poster to gain insight and inspiration for your own music-themed work. "High School Intensive: Cast Drawing and Painting"

Drawing from plaster casts is a traditional and effective way to learn to draw accurately from observation. PAFA’s beautiful and historic Cast Hall contains life-size copies of antique and Renaissance sculpture – a unique resource that has been part of the school’s curriculum for over 200 years. Master the drawing elements of gesture, proportion, volume, anatomy, tone, and composition with charcoal and colored chalk on toned paper. Progress to oil painting materials and techniques using a limited palette. Ideal for all levels, with options to draw- or paint-only based on experience.
