Students will use basic hand building techniques to create a wide range of sculptural and functional ceramic pieces. Children will learn how to use pinch, coil, and slab construction to build imaginative creatures, small pots, sculptural masks, and more. Add texture, pattern, and color using a variety of tools and tempera paints.

"Art for Kids Ages 6-8: Ceramics Around the World"
July 23-26, 2018
 

This ceramics workshop will take young artists on a trip around the globe to discover unique works of art. Each day, students will explore a different global destination and focus on the ceramic art and techniques specific to that region. Pieces will be decorated using brightly colored underglazes and a final clear glaze will ensure all pieces are food safe.

"Art for Kids Ages 9-12: Pottery in the Making"
July 23-26, 2018
 

Great for both beginning and returning students, this workshop will focus on using the wheel to create a variety of functional pieces, including cups, plates, bowls, and vases. Young artists will have plenty of time to practice potter's wheel techniques and make new forms. Surfaces will be decorated using underglazes and a final clear glaze will ensure all items are food safe.

Using a combination of the potter's wheel and hand building techniques, young artists will produce a range of functional pieces. Plates, bowls, cups, vases, book ends, and candle holders are just a few of the possible projects. Students will learn how to modify, embellish, and underglaze. "Art for Kids Ages 9-12: Cut and Paste with Collage and Montage"
July 30 - August 2, 2018
 

In this workshop, students will explore basic to advanced collage and montage techniques, including using recycled materials, found objects, and printmaking methods to communicate an artistic vision. The works of Masters Robert Rauschenberg, Hannah Höch, Henri Matisse, Max Ernst, and more will be referenced for inspiration and instruction throughout the week.

"Art for Kids Ages 6-8: Printmaking Sampler"
July 30 - August 2, 2018
 

This workshop will focus on three different printmaking methods, including relief, collagraph, and monotype. Young artists will learn about the history and practice the techniques unique to each process, followed by time to experiment and play. Single- and multi-color prints will be produced using each method.

"Art for Kids Ages 6-8: Three-Dimensional Tunnel Books"
July 30 - August 2, 2018
 

Tunnel books are defined by their stage-like window containing different layers of images. Students will begin by designing the image they want their book to show. Then they will separate the information into different foreground, mid-ground, and background layers and construct the book. Basic drawing, collage and painting techniques will be taught.

"Art for Kids 3½ to 5: Books that Fold, Twist, and Pop"

Children will view books in a whole new way as they create three-dimensional books with pockets, pop-up images, scrolls, and moveable parts. Simple folded forms will be introduced first, followed by more advanced, multi-page books. Pages and book covers will be created using drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage techniques.

In this workshop, teens will learn the process of illustrating a sequential story from writing, layout, and sketching, to the final finished pages. Pulling imagery, textures, and color from the Door County landscape, this workshop will use the potter's wheel and hand building techniques to make a range of functional and decorative ceramic pieces that reflect the school's surroundings.
