"Critique Group: Open to All Artists"
July 5, 2019

We all need feedback. As artists, we also need a second (or third) “set of eyes” on our work. We need to know how our work can be improved. We need to understand how our work is perceived by our audience – the viewer. Sometimes we can spot issues on our own, but most times we need input from others. This is where critique becomes an important part of our development as artists. Open to artists of all backgrounds and media. Moderated by PenArt’s Director of Education Elysia Michaelsen, artists reserve a 30-minute block to show and discuss your work, or just come and share your viewpoints and learn from others. Discussion formats will range from open group conversation to written critiques.

"Critique Group: Open to All Artists"
August 2, 2019

September 6, 2019

"Painting in France: Oil Painting Workshop"
August 29 - September 5, 2021

Join me to follow in the footsteps of master painters Monet, Pisarro, Renoir, Gaugin, Picasso, Cassatt and more. Each day we’ll enjoy artistic and cultural experiences, including the unique opportunity to paint in Monet’s Garden with no crowds. My plein air workshops are extremely comprehensive and have been described as ‘art school in a week’. I’ll de-mystify the painting process by teaching straightforward, easy to understand steps. Using tried and true principles as a jumping off point will allow you to loosen up and find your own voice. You’ll leave this class with the skills needed to take your work to the next level…both outdoors and in the studio. There will be demos, discussions, handouts, lots of painting time and individual attention.

"Learn to paint on Thursday nights in my studio"
Thursdays in 2019

Every Thursday, I’m opening up my studio from 6 to 9 p.m. to students who wish to develop their oil painting skills, work with me side by side, and enjoy themselves for a few hours. Students are expected to bring their own supplies and have a basic knowledge of oil painting. The minimum age to participate is 14 and there is a maximum of five students per session. We’ll build a learning experience based on camaraderie and a shared purpose. I’ll lead and teach—but there is always the possibility of learning from other members of the group as we experience a coming together of like-minded souls.
