We will use molds to get perfectly shaped bowls then paint slip which will harden by the second class to carve through using a sgraffito effect to create the design. The design is easy to follow along with for beginners by sketching out lines before carving into the surface. Just like telling a story in the words of a poem, you can also tell a story in thread and fabric. Unlike a canvas of threads, narrative stitching - uses very simple line. Narrative stitching is imperfect and beautiful showing the hand of the maker. Listen to the process of journaling with thread, talk about the meditative process of daily stitch practice. Learn simple stitches such as the running stitch and the back stitch. Learn simple techniques of "drawing" with thread. See examples of Journal stitches used on cotton napkins, pillows and eatables. Traditionally, a mezuzah is kept in a doorway; you can choose to put a hole in it, to hang it, or leave it solid, creating a message of positivity that you can keep anywhere. Learn how to make colorful earrings, bracelets and/or pendants using "skins" of abstract paint. In this class we will cut or punch out shapes from dried "skins" of acrylic paint. We will glue them into trays of varying shapes and sizes. Then we will glue a glass or acrylic cabochon over the skin to finish off each piece. The practice of Kintsugi - repairing broken vessels by sealing the cracks, then painting them gold - is a remarkable art. The Japanese believe the golden cracks make the pieces even more precious and valuable. It's beautiful to think of this practice as a metaphor for your life, to see the broken, difficult, or painful parts of you as radiating light, gold and beauty. Kintsugi teaches you that your broken places make you stronger and better than ever before. When you think you are broken, you can pick up the pieces, put them back together, and learn to embrace the cracks. No experience is needed. Each attendee will leave with a beautiful Kintsugi bowl.
