"Mixed Media Mosaics on a 3D Substrate"
August 3-4, 2019

Go beyond just tile and grout on a 3D substrate to walk away with a masterpiece. Be guided through any basic mosaic techniques you're unfamiliar with while also learning more advanced unique techniques developed by Susan. With this piece, there is no grout necessary, meaning that this technique of mosaic is less messy than classic methods. Learn how to fit tesserae in with the changing form of a 3D shape and create an art piece that feels sculptural with unusual pieces and adhesives. This is an amazing way to use keepsakes and personal treasures to create a custom piece.

September 21, 2019

Students will design and make 3 hinged lockets using copper sheeting. Students may bring a personal photo, image or favorite paper to place in the locket, or use papers and images that Mary has selected. Mica is used to protect the image and cold connections hold it in place. Patinas, texturing, and metal applications, and all cold connections will also be covered. The focus of this class is to master the hinges, and cold connections. The class is packed with low-tech processes with fabulous results. Students will make all 3 hinges during the class time.
