This is a very successful series combining “studio critique” and “location painting”. The group is open to all levels, but especially designed for the experienced artist to “Move Forward”, strengthening their skills and understanding of painting while working en plein air. The class begins with a general Critique (studio or plein air) in our Crockett studio and then proceeds to a nearby painting spot.

"Dynamic Design : Newport Beach, CA"
July 24-26, 2019

A painting can only be as successful as the strength of its initial design. Work with award winning artist, Randall Sexton as he shares his tools for accomplishing bolder composition ideas. Open to all levels, the class reviews the fundamentals of solid picture making while focusing on the issues of each student. This fun, three day, plein air class will be chalk full of painting time, demos, and plenty of individual attention. 9am-4pm. Locations in Orange County CA.

"'Go Figure' in the Landscape"
August 9-11, 2019

Hosted by the Redwood Art Association in Eureka CA, this three day retreat will focus on the figure en plein air. Exercises to incorporate figures into a scene will be combined with more portrait like staging of models out of doors.

"'Carmel By The Sea' En Plein Air"
October 28-31, 2019

Paint along the Monterey and Carmel Coastline en plain air with Plein Air Painters of America member, Randall Sexton. Open to all levels, this 3 (or 4) day workshop is especially geared to encourage the experienced artist to reach greater heights in their work. Sexton will review the basics of solid picture making - while sharing his own methods for simplifying the complex. Three days (weather permitting) will be spent on location en plain air, while an (optional) fourth studio day will focus on simplifying the figure directly (with a model). Daily demonstrations will be followed up with individual assistance at the easel.
