The purpose of this class is to study and learn the techniques of the masters. Like the copyists at the National Gallery of Art (NGA), students will literally copy a masterpiece and each work will then “be available beyond museum walls.” Students are encouraged to attend the December bus trip to NGA, learn about the copyist program and research an image. Or, research can be done online. There are thousands of master images free to download and print. The instructor will share her knowledge to help decode a painting and reconstruct it with satisfaction. Students are expected to bring their own images to work from including drawing/painting supplies. Acrylics or watercolors are preferred. Some master reproductions will be provided.
