"Alla Prima Painting with David Shevlino"
April 3-5, 2019
 

In this class we’ll paint alla prima (wet into wet) and explore painting different subjects from photos, including the portrait. We’ll use photos of different subjects, such as people, children, landscape. We’ll talk about techniques for simplifying the subject and learning to paint with directness and economy. We’ll also talk about the basics of form, value, color and how we use our painting knowledge to interpret photos so that they can become successful paintings. Oil or Acrylic is welcome.

"Figurative Design with Jeannie McGuire"

Learn to communicate a story or feeling in their paintings to create strong figurative works of art. Her workshops focus on; absorbing the viewer by developing emotion and movement; intertwining figurative subjects with their background; seeing natural design in reference materials; and most importantly a purpose for creating art in your unique style. Jeannie hopes to inspire individual expression and encourage students to go beyond their current work level and aspire to create exhibition quality works. Workshop instruction focuses on creating paintings of people as works of art versus formal portraits and developing backgrounds that encourage a story, feeling or purpose to emerge in your unique style. Attendees receive plenty of personal attention, individual critiques and painting time.

"Lian Quan Zhen Watercolor Workshop"
April 22-24, 2019
 

Learn composition and color along with Lian's unique method including "Color Pouring and Blending" and "Paint Around". You'll learn how to mix colors right on the watercolor paper, as well as letting the pigments painting themselves. Only three primary colors will be used. Join Lian for his unique approach!

"The Portrait in Pastel with Cuong Nguyen"
July 22-24, 2019
 

The core of the lesson will be based on drawing, values, edges, composition and creating life-like skin tone color. Students will focus on the fundamentals of drawing the human head while developing new skills in soft pastel. The workshop will feature a live model, and Cuong will demonstrate his own techniques to draw from life. Students will learn to use an approach that helps them see the big shapes first, and then go into details towards the end of the session. This is a great opportunity for you to discover your own passion for drawing, or just take your existing skills to the next level.

"Sky in the Landscape with Lana Ballot"
July 29-31, 2019
 

In this 3-day workshop we will explore the role of sky in a landscape - from providing us with compositional elements to setting the mood to taking center stage in a painting. We will focus on how to use underpainting and color layering to create luminous skies and textures of the landscape. For studio work, students can choose to paint from their own photos or from provided photo reference. All levels of experience are welcome.

"Freedom in Watermedia with Stan Kurth"
October 28-30, 2019
 

The Freedom in Watermedia Workshop is designed to teach all levels of students to paint intuitively, starting without preconceived notions or outcome. There is no preliminary planning or drawing. The process will dictate direction as students use a variety of techniques to implement color, texture, line, shape and value. Instruction will start with arbitrary mark making and color application, working transparent to opaque building layers using a variety of mark making tools, watercolor, gesso and acrylic. It is entirely possible finished work may be representational, but the goal is work which is visually pleasing and aligned with the artist's personal aesthetic.
