"88th Annual Exhibition" (Posted: 3/3/08) -- The National Watercolor Society announces a call to artists for the 88th Annual Exhibition, held August 30-November 1, 2008 at the Riverside Museum of Art in Riverside, California, USA. Over $25,000 in Purchase, Cash and Merchandise Awards. Jurors of Selection: Miles G. Batt Sr., Carrie Burns Brown and Cathy Woo. Juror of Awards is Peter Adams. Paintings must be primarily water-based media on a paper surface and unvarnished. Other media, if used, must be in conjunction with the water media. The water media must be the dominant element. Plein Air Competition: "100 Years of National Parks in Utah" (Posted: 5/5/08) -- This competition is sponsored by the National Park Service and Canyonlands Natural History Association. In 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt established Natural Bridges National Monument in southeast Utah. This year celebrates "100 Years of National Parks in Utah", a landmark in Utah conservation history, and a landmark in the conservation legacy of Theodore Roosevelt. The competition is intended to commemorate the centennial year by capturing the beauty and spirit of Red-Rock and Four-Corners Country in an art display that will be shown at venues in Blanding and then at Moab, Utah. The juror, Donna Poulton Ph.D. is one of the foremost authorities on art of the red rocks country, and is co-author of the book "Utah Art, Utah Artists." The competition will take place over a three day period (August 29 - 31) on location at Natural Bridges National Monument and its three sister National Parks in the Moab/Blanding area (Canyonlands, Arches, Hovenweep).
