Call for Artists: SMART- Science & Math based Art Competition (Posted: 5/28/14) -- Los Alamos Commerce & Development is seeking entries for this years SMART- Art Competition. Science and math-based art demonstrates scientific or mathematical concepts, principles, or phenomena in creative ways. It can be created digitally using computers, be photographic, or produced through traditional fine arts methods including drawing, painting, pottery, fiber arts, etc. The contest is free to enter, and all entrants must upload their digital representation of the artwork onto the contest website. Entries will be posted to a gallery on the contest website as they are received and reviewed to allow for public viewing and voting. 2014 SAAG National Juried Show (Posted: 4/17/14) -- Artists who are legal residents of the United States are invited to participate in a juried exhibition sponsored by the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild (SAAG) and the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association (BRMAA). Cash prizes totaling $5,000, including $1,500 for Best of Show, will be awarded. The SAAG National Juried show, which is in its 7th year, will be on display during the peak visitor months of October and November, attracting interest from the surrounding tri-state metropolitan areas of Atlanta, Asheville, Chattanooga and Knoxville. Global Images of U.S. Women (Posted: 5/1/14) -- The Know Art Project, in conjunction with the Women's and Gender Studies Program and Martha Gault Art Society of Slippery Rock University (Slippery Rock, PA, USA) announces Global Images of U.S. Women. For this unique inquiry into how U.S. women are perceived and interpreted transnationally, women artists from around the world (excluding U.S. citizens) are invited to interpret how they see women of the United States. Artists of every level, background and age are encouraged to submit work. This is a non-juried exhibit and submission is free. The exhibit guidelines require all art be executed on a standard 4"x6" (11cmx16cm) or 5x7 (13cmx18cm) postcard and received by September 1, 2014. Works may be in any medium as long as pieces remain 2-dimensional and fitted onto a postcard. All submissions will become part of the permanent collection of works of the Women's and Gender Studies program of Slippery Rock University and possibly used for publication. 2014 Osceola Fall Arts Festival (Posted: 6/16/14) -- The 2014 Osceola Fall Art Festival is presented by Osceola Center for the Arts, Kissimmee Main Street and the City of Kissimmee. Nelson Mandela Memorial Design Competition (Posted: 7/7/14) -- The goal of the Nelson Mandela Memorial Design Competition is to elicit the most creative and exceptional designs for this significant public memorial project to be displayed at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo, California. The competition is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, 18 years of age or older, who are located in the United States or the District of Columbia at the time of entry. Any individual between the age of 13 and 17 may have their entry submitted by their parent or legal guardian. There is no entry fee. Small Pleasures (Posted: 7/20/14) -- "Small Pleasures" is a public installation designed for the facade of the Ulrich Museum of Art (Wichita, KS) in place of Joan Miro's monumental mosaic Personnages Oiseaux. Miro's mural is under restoration from 2012 through 2016, which is the duration of this project. The installation includes a small waterproof display case mounted on a billboard-sized image in the middle of the facade, and two telescopes installed across the street for the viewing of miniature works displayed in the case.
