2019 Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor Prize

A prize of $10,000 is given annually by the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University to support documentary artists, working alone or in teams, who are involved in extended, on-going fieldwork projects that rely on and exploit the interplay of words and images. The winner's work will also be published in the Center for Documentary Studies' digital publications and placed in the Archive of Documentary Arts at the Rubenstein Library at Duke University. Competitive applicants to this prize have a point of view derived from an in-depth understanding of place, history, and the current situation, in concert with a personal relationship to the proposed work. Ultimately, their commitment is to use documentary expression to motivate the thinking and reflection of others. A panel of writers, editors, and documentary artists will judge. Artist Residencies in Key West, FL

The Studios of Key West, the premiere arts organization at the Southernmost Point of the United States, is now accepting residency applications from artists and writers from around the world. One month residencies are awarded to visual artists, writers, composers, performers, and interdisciplinary artists to encourage the imagination of new artistic work, engagement in valuable dialogue, and exploration of island connections. Applications are accepted online. The Studios asks that applying artists submit supplementary materials to provide more information on their residency proposal (a guide to submissions is available at tskw.org), as well as propose a special project as a component of the residency. This could be in the form of a workshop, artist talk, public reading, etc. and would be offered at The Studios of Key West in exchange for the residency, if awarded one. Applications are evaluated by selection committees comprised of working artists and professionals in the applicants' respective fields of discipline under the five categories: Visual Arts, Literary Arts, Media Arts, Musical Arts, and Performing Arts. $40 application fee. The Arts Council of York County announces a call to artists for a juried art exhibition, June 14 - July 28, 2019 at the Center for the Arts, Dalton Gallery in Rock Hill, SC. The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University is pleased to announce an open call for sculptors, aged 18 and older. The Young Affiliates, in collaboration with The Mint Museum, will host their fourth annual art show, "Coined in the South", at the museum's uptown location, October 11, 2019 - February 16, 2020 in Charlotte, NC. $15,000 in awards ($10,000 Jurors' Award; $5,000 YAM Member Favorite). Jurors: Marilyn Zapf, Adam N. Justice, & Jonell Logan. Open to both emerging and established artists who are either from, or currently working in, the Southeast.
