"Abstract Mixed Media Collage"
Tuesdays, April 21 - June 2, 2026
 

This 12-week course invites students into the exciting world of abstract mixed media art. Guided by artist and educator Birgit Raders-Eichinger, students will explore a wide range of materials, techniques, tools and compositional strategies to create richly layered artwork. Topics include mark-making, texture, layering, contrast, intuitive composition, adding and subtracting, similar but different, balance, and focal points. The course encourages experimentation with tools like brushes, palette knives, color shapers, and unconventional materials. Participants will develop and refine at least one (or more) large cohesive abstract collage artwork, while also creating smaller exploratory pieces throughout the course as part of learning new techniques and materials. Students will be encouraged to take risks, trust their intuition, and enjoy the process of discovery.

"Watercolor and Gouache with Stan Kurth"

Intuitive Painting with Stan Kurth in watercolor and gouache. Join Stan in this experimental workshop and learn to shift from the fixed mindset that separates traditional representational painting from abstraction to one that incorporates both. This workshop will help you learn to paint intuitively. Instruction will start with random mark making and color application, working transparent to opaque, building layers using a variety of mark making tools with watercolor and gouache. The finished painting may be representational or non-objective, but the criteria will be no reference and letting the process guide the outcome.

"Two For Art (Ages 2+)"

Join your child on a nurturing creative quest. Whether your child has already begun to show an interest in art or you are looking to introduce them to new media in a structured yet caring environment, this class allows even the youngest students to discover their creative side. Students work with air-dry clay, collage, paint, chalk and more. Our early childhood teachers encourage students to talk about their art, providing a great opportunity to learn new vocabulary, particularly words related to colors, shapes, textures, and emotions. Children learn to follow directions in a social setting with support and encouragement of their caregiver, serving as the perfect precursor to preschool. "Intro to Analog Collage"

Creating an analog collage piece allows you to create entirely new worlds and subjects from found images and backgrounds. Whether you’re interested in approaching collage from a surrealist angle (the artist’s main focus) or from a more abstract or mosaic perspective, at Intro to Analog Collage, you will learn the basics of using found images to create your own works of art. We’ll discuss different methods of making art using collage, and I’ll provide source material from which we will cut out, place, and glue into position the images, backgrounds, and textures that will become your unique creation.

"Collage to Canvas"

Collage to Canvas is a fast-paced, inspiring day of artistic exploration designed for students of all experience levels. "3-Day Cold Wax/Oil Workshop - Monochrome Drawing & Painting"
August 14-16, 2026
 

Monochrome painting is art composed in a single color. It utilizes various shades or tints, so the images become incredibly evocative and most importantly what you lose in not using color you’ll gain in quality of composition and contrast. Color is no longer a distraction. The focus is on the overall composition. Also mark-making is improved by enabling the discovery of different forms and shapes with subtle tones. Painting with a single color can improve your art because it makes you concentrate on elements such as line, value, lighting and form.

"Marks in Motion: Oil & Mixed Media"

In this dynamic two-day workshop, you will explore ways to bring energy, movement, and expressive mark-making into your oil paintings. Together we will embrace experimentation and cultivate a spirit of playful discovery. Through a series of guided exercises, you will work with a printmaker’s tool—the brayer— and water mixable oil paint to create bold, unexpected marks in combination with brush work and other miscellaneous mark making tools to layer textures and add energy within your paintings. We will also explore the exciting combination of oil paint with pastel and watercolor to expand your choices in how you approach your painting practice. We will also touch on color theory, and how we choose our palette to create mood and atmosphere.
