"Sculpting Memory Shapes of the Torso with Stephen Perkins"
November 3-6, 2017

This sculpture workshop will appeal to anyone interested in the figure as an art form: sculptors, painters, draftsmen, and graphic artists alike. We'll focus on the the memory shapes of the torso by abstracting the figure into simpler geometry and planes. The forms of the torso are essentially identical on all figures, the uniqueness of each torso comes in the proportions and this will vary from figure to figure within a range. Working from the live model and demonstrations, we'll start with the the larger forms and proceed to the smaller forms, developing a conceptual geometric shape for each. Perkins was trained in the classical method and currently teaches at his home atelier Florida and Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia.

Each day will include demonstrations of elements of landscape painting with lots of personal instruction. Develop your ability to look at the complexity of the scene in front of you, and focus your vision so that you can design a good painting that speaks of the essence of the scene, rather than merely reporting the things in it. Every painting should have a concept, and your composition, colors and techniques must work towards bringing your concept to life.
