Images in Wax, Exploring Encaustic (851)
June 9-11, 2017 — Encaustic works of art have a dimensional quality that is achieved through building layers of wax. The process offers artists the possibility of creating works with a depth of translucency and color in a unique hand-wrought process. The results are surprising even to experienced artists. The workshop will focus on combining photography with encaustic painting techniques. The encaustic medium is an alternative way of giving your work a painterly look and tactile feel. During the workshop, we'll explore papers and layering photographic images. We will experiment with over painting, applying image transfers, color glazes and several hand-coloring techniques. Discover a New Way of Seeing Color
August 21-25, 2017 (9am-4:30pm) — We'll start out the first two days doing still life study out of doors which will prepare us to tackle the landscape. Next two days we'll be on location painting the landscape. I'll be teaching the structure of the landscape - what is important to include as well as what to leave out. On the last day we'll do color studies of the figure (in the Hensche/Hawthorne "mudhead" tradition). We'll focus on the development of strong starts, and expressing the big masses, light key and aerial perspective with color. I'll be doing demos throughout the workshop. Each day you'll do a color study before lunch, followed by one or two color studies in the afternoon. Visit website
