In this class you will handbuild the bowl the first day with slab or coils. We will use molds to get perfectly shaped bowls then paint slip which will harden by the second class to carve through using a sgraffito effect to create the design. The design is easy to follow along with for beginners by sketching out lines before carving into the surface. Just like telling a story in the words of a poem, you can also tell a story in thread and fabric. Unlike a canvas of threads, narrative stitching - uses very simple line. Narrative stitching is imperfect and beautiful showing the hand of the maker. Listen to the process of journaling with thread, talk about the meditative process of daily stitch practice. Learn simple stitches such as the running stitch and the back stitch. Learn simple techniques of "drawing" with thread. See examples of Journal stitches used on cotton napkins, pillows and eatables. In this class you will handbuild the bowl the first day with slab or coils. We will use molds to get perfectly shaped bowls then paint slip which will harden by the second class to carve through using a sgraffito effect to create the design. Learn how to make colorful earrings, bracelets and/or pendants using "skins" of abstract paint. In this class we will cut or punch out shapes from dried "skins" of acrylic paint. Bohls’ work is deeply rooted in a study of historical vessels. She translates these forms first by doing a series of drawings and then building forms using the coil and pinch method of handbuilding. Join Joan with some friends for a fun evening of painting! Bring your adult beverages and some snacks. This is a beginner's class that will provide step by step instructions using acrylic paints. Students will work with the instructor to complete one painting during the workshop. The instructor will teach techniques using paint brush strokes, line, form and blending applications. Relax and have fun making folk art inspired by Mary Maquire. All supplies are included in the cost of tuition. (Students may bring their own brushes if they prefer.)

Learn to build forms, prepare sand mix concrete, sculpt and hand carve in the soft matrix in this wet-carved concrete workshop. No power tools or hammer and chisel are required. Students will be given a working understanding of Portland cement and the variety of possibilities the technique offers. Choose to make either a planter or sculpture of about 30 lbs. Carving tools and materials provided. By the end of the carving day everyone will have completed their piece short of it having sit overnight to cure before handling. A visual exploration of composition and the artistic principles through collage art. Collage most often suggests an idea as it helps develop a narrative, but when combined with CWM/oil paint, it allows for much experimentation through transparencies, opacity and texture. Qiang’s approach to still life painting will be demonstrated with particular focus on creating dramatic set ups by observing the light distribution, and using bold and loose strokes to create a powerful and accurate representation on canvas. Monochrome painting is art composed in a single color. It utilizes various shades or tints, so the images become incredibly evocative and most importantly what you lose in not using color you’ll gain in quality of composition and contrast. Color is no longer a distraction. The focus is on the overall composition. Also mark-making is improved by enabling the discovery of different forms and shapes with subtle tones.
