"Etruscan Places Open Air Fundamentals"
June 30 - July 7, 2018

Our core program is founded upon the premise that open air painting presents unique challenges to the artist in the fleeting light and unpredictability of atmospheric conditions that require a specific technical approach in execution. We introduce our method through a structured program combining lectures, exercises & demonstrations that aim to enable participants to compose, develop and complete a painting in one session. Two instructors will work directly with participants at all times. Sessions are supported by a Siena museum visit, evening slide shows analyzing works of the masters in the history of landscape painting, books and readings. Fees include materials, surfaces, equipment, most meals, accommodation, field trips (Siena and Montalcino) , local transport. All levels. 12 student maximum.

Let’s immerse ourselves in the flavors and colors of Tuscany, famous for its rolling hills, olive groves, cypress trees, winding vineyards but also superb Renaissance art and of course Chianti wine. Join Kirah Van Sickle for a plein air adventure in watercolor, oil and acrylic painting. We will explore a myriad of journal sketching and alla prima painting techniques. With an approach based on fundamentals of values, composition and color, Kirah will introduce students to exercises and techniques that build brush confidence and achieve bold, fresh and loose results. Students will gain a better understanding of color temperature, limited palette and the dramatic impact in building contrast and dynamic landscape compositions. Join us in the heart of Italy!
